Ministry of Environment,Green Development and Tourism (MEGDT)

Description

The MEGDT has eight departments and currently approximately 130 employees working for the MEGDT. The MEGDT has its’ environmental protection fund with annual budget of 6 billion MNT which is about 3 million USD. This funding is mainly for researches and capacity building programmers. The MEGDT has the main strategic priorities are:1) Advancing policy 2) lead the national programme 3) education and awareness arising on non formal ESD
Purpose: Responsible community to ensure sustainable development
Goal 1: Building capacity on ESD
Goal 2: Facilitating ESD networks
Goal 3: Advocating improvement of standards among intergovernmental organizations
Goal 4: Support on SD initiatives and innovations of PPs
- The end of the programme, at least 90% of general publics would be aware of SD concepts and own role for the promotion of SD.
- Green certification such as ISO 14001 standards would be introduced and at least 40% of legal entities have its ISO 14001 certification.
- 90% of government employees would be trained on SD concepts and standards.
- At least 90% of government agencies commit and launch the SD concept in their operations.
- 90% of general publics would be fully aware of own active participation for the promoting and ensuring the SD in the country.
Department of Green Development Policy and Strategic Planning of MEGDT will be the key body to lead and implement the above proposed ESD activity. The Department of Green Development Policy and Strategic Planning consists of 6 staff. This department lead the implementation for the MEDGT and other departments will support and actively participate for the promotion and empowering all relevant stakeholders. MEDGT shall sustain and scale up the programmes with financial resource through closely collaborating international donor organizations as well as increasing commitment and allocation of the state budget year by year for the ESD.
